In Santa Cruz La Laguna, a lakeside community in Guatemala, had always woven bags, textiles, and purses by hand; skills passed down through generations. But their crafts rarely reached the tourists. The market and opportunity were there. What was missing was the door. With support from IOM, that door was built. The result is Ruchoq’a’ Ixöq, a community shop. By building stable livelihoods at home, it gives women a reason to stay, reducing the pressure to migrate irregularly in search of opportunity. 🔗
