Content is no longer tied to a single screen or location. As content delivery models evolve, the role of satellite infrastructure is expanding beyond traditional broadcast workflows toward IP-based distribution environments. Q-Stream was developed to support this transition by enabling file delivery across satellite and 5G environments, helping bridge two infrastructures that have traditionally operated separately. Built on the DVB-NIP standard, the platform opens new possibilities for content distribution use cases ranging from DTH2.0 and educational delivery to edge caching models where satellite can operate as a “CDN-in-the-sky”. Developed in part under the 5G-Emerge project, led by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and financed by the European Space Agency (ESA), Q-Stream reflects the ongoing convergence between satellite, IP, and next-generation delivery networks.
