As battery energy storage becomes more central to project revenue, long-term owners need to think beyond battery specifications. In Standard Solar's Q2 issue of re:new, Intertek CEA storage expert Jeff Zwijack was asked what technical and procurement risks owners should be watching most closely as storage plays a larger role in clean energy revenue stacks. His answer: decisions made early in procurement can shape how a project performs for years to come. Reliability, augmentation needs, operating flexibility, warranty support, and long-term service all affect whether a system can deliver the revenue it was built for. As storage revenues become increasingly tied to energy arbitrage and ancillary services, project value will depend less on installed capacity and more on the system's ability to operate safely, reliably, and predictably throughout its life. A lower-cost system today can become a much more expensive asset if those risks are not properly evaluated.
