📑 InterPore Journal Article: Effect of fissure drainage on dispersive mixing in porous media gravity currents: an experimental investigation Mansimran Singh, Saeed Sheikhi, Ph.D., EIT, K. S. Bharath, Morris Flynn Dispersion is a fundamental mechanism for mixing in porous media flow. Our study explores dispersion in combination with buoyancy-driven spreading, as arises, for example, when hydrogen is injected into depleted natural gas reservoirs. Findings from our laboratory experiments highlight the interdependence not only of dispersion and spreading but also of fissure drainage, which, along with mixing, accounts for irreversible injectate loss. Importantly, we find that the relative importance of dispersion increases with fissure draining, which underscores the critical importance of caprock integrity in energy storage operations. 🔗 InterPore Journal, Vol. 3, Issue 2, 2026: https://lnkd.in/gGXU_Mca #InterPore #InterPorejournal #uhs #dispersion
