šŸ“‘ InterPore Journal Article: Modelling copper mobilization from low-grade ore controlled by mineral surface reactions Ralf Haese Apoorv J. This work presents a new reactive-transport modelling approach that captures mineral surface reactions at the microscopic scale; processes that are often overlooked in conventional heap leaching models. The study shows how surface passivation, driven by secondary mineral formation such as jarosite, can significantly reduce copper mobilization over time. The model also identifies operating conditions that maximize copper recovery, including high ferric iron concentrations, low pH, and controlling sulfate levels to limit passivation. By linking mineral-scale processes to heap-scale performance, this work provides valuable insights for improving copper recovery from low-grade ores and supporting more efficient, sustainable mining operations. šŸ”— InterPore Journal, Vol. 3, Issue 2, 2026: https://lnkd.in/dU3agD4M #InterPore #InterPorejournal #Copper #Mining #HeapLeaching #ReactiveTransport #Mineralogy #Geochemistry #ProcessModelling #SustainableMining
