TIWAG-Tiroler Wasserkraft AG has officially named the tunnel boring machine (TBM) that will excavate the pressure tunnel for the Innstufe Imst-Haiming hydropower project in Tyrol, western Austria. The machine, named HAIMO, was selected following a public vote hosted on TIWAG's website. The winning name was proposed by students from Class 3b at Haiming Elementary School in Haiming, a municipality in the Upper Inn Valley. HAIMO emerged as the winner in a close contest against the finalists "Bohrtschi" and "Steinbeißer". The TBM will play a key role in the development of the project, driving an 8.2m diameter pressure tunnel between the power station construction site in Haiming and the Inn River crossing near Imst, around 50km west of Innsbruck. Over the next three years, HAIMO will excavate through the Alpine rock to create the tunnel, a major component of the hydropower scheme. According to TIWAG board member Alexander Speckle, the naming initiative has become a long-standing tradition for the company and reflects local engagement with major infrastructure projects. 🎥 courtesy of TIWAG-Tiroler Wasserkraft AG
