Post by International Master in Public Procurement Management (IMPPM)
2nd Level Master at Tor Vergata University of Rome
🚀 Driving excellence through Strategic Procurement and Quality Management! As part of the 14th edition of the International Master in Public Procurement Management, participants completed the module on Strategic Procurement and Quality Management, led by Vittorio Cesarotti (University of Rome Tor Vergata), Michael Eßig (Bundeswehr University Munich), and Andreas H. Glas Glas (Bundeswehr University Munich). The module brought together three complementary perspectives. Professor Vittorio Cesarotti, an expert in operations, quality, and industrial engineering, introduced participants to the principles of Quality Management, Operational Excellence, and Project Management, demonstrating how procurement can become a strategic contributor to organizational performance through continuous improvement. From the international procurement perspective, Professor Michael Essig, one of Europe's leading scholars in strategic procurement and supply management, explored how procurement strategy creates long-term value through supplier relationship management, procurement planning, and integration with corporate strategy. Professor Andreas Glascomplemented this vision by presenting the latest research on procurement innovation, value creation, and the role of procurement in building resilient and high-performing organizations. Throughout the module, participants explored procurement planning, value creation, life-cycle thinking, and the strategic integration of procurement with business objectives. Particular attention was devoted to internationally recognized methodologies such as Six Sigma, Operational Excellence, and Business Excellence, highlighting how structured approaches improve performance, quality, efficiency, and decision-making. A key takeaway of the module was the practical application of the Deming Cycle (Plan–Do–Check–Act) as a management philosophy for procurement. Participants learned how continuous planning, execution, monitoring, evaluation, and corrective actions are essential to achieving sustainable improvements throughout the procurement lifecycle and in complex projects. These concepts were further connected to Project Management principles, emphasizing governance, performance measurement, stakeholder coordination, and continuous organizational learning. By combining academic research with practical applications and international best practices, the module reinforced that modern procurement is no longer simply about purchasing efficiently—it is about creating value, managing quality, driving innovation, and continuously improving organizational performance. #IMPPM #TorVergata #StrategicProcurement #QualityManagement #OperationalExcellence #BusinessExcellence #SixSigma #DemingCycle #ProjectManagement #ValueCreation #PublicProcurement #GlobalClassroom #ProfessionalDevelopment
