Fannie Lou Hamer’s leadership offers a powerful lesson in pluralism and democratic resilience. Born into a sharecropping family in Mississippi, Hamer became a central figure in the fight for voting rights, desegregation, and political inclusion. Despite facing arrest, violence, and lifelong injuries, she continued organizing and building institutions like the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Her approach to coalition building remains especially relevant. During Freedom Summer, she urged collaborators to work across differences, saying: “If we’re trying to break down this barrier of segregation, we can’t segregate ourselves.” Read the full Pluralism Hero tribute by Bex Blackburn: https://lnkd.in/e5YK-ZJd
