Shipping operates globally, and therefore requires globally agreed rules. In a recent interview with Ναυτικά Χρονικά - Naftika Chronika, INTERCARGO Chair John Xylas shares his views on some of the key challenges shaping the dry bulk sector today, including geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory complexity, digitalisation, safety and seafarer welfare. As the voice of quality dry bulk shipowners at the International Maritime Organization, INTERCARGO continues to advocate for practical, globally applicable regulations while supporting members through technical expertise, industry collaboration and operational guidance. The discussion also highlights the opportunities presented by digital technologies and AI, alongside the importance of ensuring that innovation supports safer and more efficient shipping without adding unnecessary complexity.
