One of the key discussions during Marine Insurance Greece, MIG26, was the panel “It’s All in the Name – Fires”, addressing one of the shipping industry’s most pressing challenges. The session explored how fires are not solely linked to lithium batteries, but are also caused by misdeclared cargoes, chemicals and inappropriate storage practices — risks that continue to impact the sector despite ongoing efforts to strengthen prevention and risk management. Moderated by Dimitris Monioudis, INTERCARGO Technical Committee Chair , the panel brought together expert perspectives from salvage, loss prevention and claims handling, with contributions from Anna Shipilli, David Nichol and Alexandra Chatzimichailoglou. Key outcome was the need for all stakeholders (charterers, shippers, salvors, cargo interests, insurers, owners, Class etc.) to engage and promote safety onboard, emergency preparedness and transparency of actual risks. Thank you to all panellists and participants for contributing to such an insightful and important discussion for our industry. #INTERCARGO #DryBulk
