Singapore’s innovation economy depends not only on strong IP protection, but also on trusted ways to resolve disputes when they arise. The IP Arbitration course at NUS Faculty of Law is the first programme of its kind offered by any leading law school globally. Conceived by IPOS in collaboration with Professor David Tan five years ago and taught by Associate Professor Jean Ho together with Adjunct Professor Mark Lim and Adjunct Assistant Professor Gabriel Ong, the course reflects Singapore’s ambition to be a trusted hub for IP and technology dispute resolution. We’re grateful to the practitioners and leaders who generously shared their perspectives with the class this year, including Professor David Tan, Jill Ann Koh (WongPartnership LLP), and Jonathan Choo (Ciarb Singapore Branch) and Snigdha Bhatta (Singapore International Arbitration Centre). Through immersive sessions, students moved from theory to practice – advising high fashion clients on conflict resolution, analysing a cross-border video-gaming dispute, and gaining practical insights into recent trends involving IP and tech disputes. For businesses and innovators, this matters. As technology and intangible assets become central to value creation, the ability to resolve IP disputes efficiently and credibly becomes a competitive advantage for the ecosystem. By helping train the next generation of IP and tech dispute resolution lawyers, initiatives like this strengthen Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and reinforce our position as a global hub for resolving complex IP disputes. #intellectualproperty #ipdr #tech #innovation
