48 years ago this week, Intel introduced a 16-bit microprocessor that would go on to transform personal computing for decades to come. Released in June 1978, the Intel 8086 was the first microprocessor to introduce x86 architecture, allowing for much more demanding and flexible applications compared to its predecessors. Nearly 50 years later, this architectural standard is still commonly used in modern laptops and desktops. We're proud to wish this legendary processor the happiest of birthdays and want to thank Intel fans and users for keeping x86 alive all this time.
