The transition from the structured routine of the school year to the freedom of summer can be much harder on kids, teens, and young adults than many families expect. On NBC 10 Boston, our Co-Founder and Chief Clinical Officer, Kathryn Boger, Ph.D., ABPP, shared how we can best support young people and their families through this transition. ✅ Establish daily "anchors": Maintain consistency around meal times, bedtimes, and device expectations. ✅ Normalize mixed emotions: Remind them it is okay to feel excited and overwhelmed at the exact same time. ✅ Allow space for boredom: Let a young person’s mind wander and get creative. ✅ Validate before encouraging: Teach families to validate feelings before reminding a young person of their capability to do hard things.
