100 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐆𝐎: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐊𝐘 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐄 On May 12, 1926, the airship #Norge wrote one of the most daring chapters in the history of exploration: the first documented flight over the North Pole. Commanded by Umberto #Nobile, alongside Roald #Amundsen and Lincoln Ellsworth, that crew was not merely defying the ice—they were opening the doors to a new era of scientific knowledge. 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 That feat did not remain an isolated event. Only two years later, in 1928, it was the turn of the airship Italia. Despite the expedition’s tragic conclusion, the event solidified the unbreakable bond between Italy and #polarresearch, transforming a heroic challenge into a mission of systematic observation of the Arctic environment.
