A diagnosis is one of the most powerful tools in medicine. It tells us: • what condition is present • how it is classified • potential complications • evidence-based management approaches But every experienced clinician knows that a diagnosis rarely tells the entire story. Two patients may share the same diagnosis and receive similar treatments, yet experience remarkably different trajectories and outcomes. This raises an important question: What else should we be trying to understand? Perhaps we should also consider: • Why did this patient develop the condition? • Why now? • What is their physiological reserve? • What is their recovery capacity? • What is the state of their BioTerrain? • What factors may influence treatment responsiveness and long-term outcomes? Because a diagnosis names the disease. Understanding the physiology surrounding that disease may help explain everything else. How do you look beyond the diagnosis in your clinical practice? #ClinicalMedicine #MedicalEducation #ClinicalReasoning #SystemsMedicine #HealthOptimisation #BioTerrain #MetabolicHealth #PreventiveMedicine #PhysicianEducation #InternalMedicine #LongevityMedicine #HealthcareInnovation #FunctionalMedicine #HealthyAgeing #IHOM
