David Ogilvy famously said: “The consumer isn’t a moron. She is your wife [and brother, and mother, and daughter, and father and friend...] People deserve truth. Creative recognition deserves credibility. Professional standards mean less than nothing unless someone is prepared to defend them when doing so is inconvenient. At Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Frank Starling, Paul Coxhill, Simon Cook, and Marian Brannelly made the hard right choice. They protected the credibility that gives the festival, and its recognition, true value. These four should themselves be recognized for raising the bar, safeguarding the value of the festival, and modeling the professional conduct the industry requires. Several members of the IAE Advisory Council are also in Cannes this week: Marc S. Pritchard, David Bell, Alexandre Callay, Phil Cowdell, John Osborn, and Esther Uhalte Cisneros. Also Advisor Emeritus Jeffrey Greenbaum! Their presence reinforces a principle central to IAE’s work: creative excellence and professional integrity are not competing ambitions Integrity is our only collateral. Nous vous saluons. Vous avez fait honneur à votre profession. We salute you.
