Healthcare leaders, policymakers, researchers and innovators came together in Manila last week for the Forum on Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Health Equity. They were united in a common purpose to explore how AI can strengthen health systems in the Asia-Pacific region and improve lives. The Forum was hosted by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Health Organization Western Pacific Region.   Our colleague Paul Nderitu presented remotely on the Global RETFound consortium, a collaborative initiative to develop the first globally representative AI foundation model in medicine, using up to 100 million eye images from over 65 countries. Paul described how real and synthetic data are being harnessed to enable this inclusive international study, developing a more generalisable and equitable foundation model.   Paul is a medical retina fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and research fellow with Pearse Keane's artificial medical intelligence lab at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. The consortium is led by Pearse, Yih Chung Tham 覃宇宗 and Carol Cheung, respectively representing Moorfields, NIHR Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre, UCL, INSIGHT Eye Hub; The Chinese University of Hong Kong; National University of Singapore and Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) Institute.
