⚙️ The average European wind turbine is 14.8 years old. Gearbox failure rates increase significantly after year 7. The math is not comforting. A single unplanned gearbox failure on a 4MW onshore wind turbine can cost up to €495,000. And here is what most people do not realise: the gearbox itself is not always the biggest cost driver. The replacement can be done within days. What drives up the bill is everything around it. Waiting for the right gearbox to be delivered. Waiting for a crane to become available. Preparing the foundation. And then there are the weather conditions that can delay everything further. 90 days of lost production add up fast. And most operators only find out something is wrong when it is already too late. Traditional monitoring approaches often provide an aggregated picture of gearbox health over time rather than a continuous real time view. By the time a problem becomes visible, the repair window has often already closed. 💬 What are your experiences with downtime and repair costs?
