Spain needs more than a victory on Sunday. 🇪🇸 It needs a reason to believe in itself again. I am not a big “futbol”  fan. I don’t follow every match, know every statistic or spend the season discussing players and formations at La Liga. But watching Spain progress through this World Cup has awakened something in me. It takes me back to 2010. The excitement, the pride, and the feeling of an entire country connected by the same Purpose. Spain has reached this final with extraordinary talent, but not because one superstar has carried the team. The goals have come from forwards, midfielders, defenders, starters, and substitutes. Mikel Merino has started only once, yet he came off the bench to score two decisive goals. Lamine Yamal has attracted enormous global attention, but his talent is serving something larger than his personal recognition. Spain has conceded only one goal in seven matches. That requires trust, discipline, sacrifice, and people willing to work for one another. Luis de la Fuente described it perfectly: “What matters is the team. It doesn’t matter who starts the match. Everyone is important, even those who haven’t played.” That is shared Purpose. It doesn’t mean everyone contributes in the same way. It means everyone understands what they are contributing to. This team also represents a Spain made up of different regions, backgrounds, histories, and identities. Lamine Yamal can represent Spain while proudly honoring Rocafonda and his Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean roots. The players do not need to erase who they are to wear the same shirt. Purpose is not uniformity. It is unity. As a Spaniard living outside Spain, I see our passion, generosity, creativity, and extraordinary talent. I also see how difficult it can be for us to recognize our own value and show the world who we are with pride. Like every country, Spain has its lights and its shadows. But people sometimes need a reason to believe again in who they are and what they can accomplish together. That is Purpose. That is why I believe Spain needs this final. Not simply to lift another trophy. We need a reminder of what can happen when individual talent, different identities, and millions of hopes come together around something larger. I hope Spain wins on Sunday. But above all, I hope we remember what brought us there. What could become possible if we placed our greatest gifts at the service of a shared Purpose?
