Scientists fight back against far-right plans to restrict academic freedom in Germany 🎓 With the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) leading in polls for national and state elections, institutions are facing up to proposed restrictions on academic freedom. The AfD's election programme explicitly proposes restrictions on — or even the prohibition of — research in certain fields, alarming major academic organizations including the German Rectors' Conference and the German Research Foundation. Academic freedom is a cornerstone of scientific progress.
