National Apprenticeship Week, made me think about a โtool boxโ that my Dad bought a little while ago. Poignant and well worth a read....๐๐๐ผ A fine carpenters tool chest made in the final years of his apprenticeship (1907) by Harold Gunniss (19) using all the skills heโd learnt along the way. Without the skills of the men and women like Harold used, and still use their hands to make, build and repair things for use in our everyday lives, where would we be? Who do we call on when a skill is needed? We need skilled hands now just as much as we did a 114 years ago when Harold made this. His own tool chest from his own plans drawn by his own hand and to a very high standard. Take a look at the detail and care taken. How much he must have enjoyed his craft? And how proud he must have been with the end result! Look at his tools a 114 years later, how amazing they survived so well for so long, why? Because he and his children after him, had values, they had purpose, they didnโt wander aimlessly from job to job, they had a trade they were very proud of.... Could this be you or someone you know? Yes of course it could, get a trade to last you a lifetime and be appreciated. Iโd prefer it to be vehicle repair of course, but get a trade and be proud of what you do! Just like Harold! ๐๐ผ
