European Industry Summit: from rhetoric to solutions Speaking at the European Industry Summit in Antwerp, industriAll Europe and the CES - ETUC set out a clear workers’ perspective on the future of European industry, at a critical political moment ahead of the Council of the European Union discussions on competitiveness and industrial policy. Europe’s industrial base is under severe strain. Energy-intensive sectors face unsustainably high energy prices, weak demand and unfair trading conditions, while too many companies prioritise short-term shareholder returns over long-term industrial investment. In his intervention, industriAll Europe President Michael Vassiliadis underlined that European trade unions support the objectives of the Green Deal — but warned that without the right conditions for workers, public support for the transition is at risk. Three urgent priorities were highlighted: • A credible, well-resourced European industrial strategy delivering affordable clean energy • Massive public and private investment aligned with the transition, with strong social and local conditionalities • A genuine Just Transition framework that protects jobs and industrial capacity As Michael Vassiliadis concluded, Europe must close the gap between policy narratives and workers’ lived reality. The time for excuses is over. The time for solutions is now. Judith Kirton-Darling Isabelle Barthes Industriegewerkschaft IGBCE European Commission Cefic Ursula von der Leyen https://lnkd.in/eu5PBFuB
