2026 Sydney Build Expo at ICC Sydney this week was a strong reminder that construction isn't just adopting new tools. The industry is being actively reshaped by technology, sustainability, and global supply chains. Michael Claro, Business Development Executive, and Saief Hoque, Business Development Executive, attended on behalf of the team. A few trends that stood out to them there included: ● AI is now construction-critical. From document review and planning analysis through to machine vision for spatial mapping and BIM-ready survey outputs — AI has moved well past "nice to have." ● Materials innovation is accelerating. Lighter, fire-resistant, and more sustainable products are genuinely changing design constraints and build timelines. ● Sustainability was a headline theme, not a side conversation. Exhibitors across the board were showcasing ecologically sound design, and ESG supplier readiness kept coming up too. Sustainability expectations are flowing down the supply chain fast. ● The international presence was strong. Groups from Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, and Korea brought modular components and practical innovations that reflect just how much cross-border collaboration is shaping the market. One thing worth flagging for innovators in the built environment: a lot of what was on show has genuine R&D behind it. For Australian companies, the R&D Tax Incentive can be a valuable offset when that work is structured and well-documented. Particularly as we help businesses across construction, proptech, and engineering scope, document, and claim eligible R&D activity. Looking forward to Melbourne Build Expo later in the year!
