Across infrastructure, environmental, and energy teams, the conversation is shifting from hiring volume to execution — and what it takes to sustain delivery once projects are underway. Sharing this with the Diversity Executive Voice community — we’ve been seeing a consistent shift across infrastructure and environmental teams that’s worth paying attention to. Last Weekend, I Wrote About the People Who Sustain The Work. This Week, I Keep Coming Back To What That Actually Means For Teams. Across infrastructure, environmental, and energy programs, a pattern continues to show up: It’s not just about hiring. It’s about whether teams have the Experience Depth To Sustain Delivery once projects are underway. The pressure point is becoming clearer: ~the mid-level layer (roughly 3–10 years) is increasingly constrained ~senior leaders are stepping back into execution ~continuity starts to depend on fewer people than it should That’s where projects begin to feel risk — not at the start, but in the middle. Most hiring strategies are still built around volume. But delivery doesn’t break because of headcount. It breaks when the Experience Mix Isn’t There To Carry it Forward . The firms navigating this well are thinking differently about: ~how they engage Inclusive experienced professionals ~how visible those opportunities actually are ~and how quickly the right people can step into the work Execution Isn’t Just About Building Teams — It’s About Sustaining Them. Curious how others are seeing this show up across their programs. — Tee
