Support Insular and low density areas in the transition towards a more CIRCular tourism Economy.

📣Strengthening the tourism sector strategy in a move toward circularity and sustainability: 1st SWG in the territory of LAG Terra Barocca (Sicily) “Create territorial strategies to increase circularity and sustainability of tourism to support the relaunch of the sector un a post-covid time”, has been the topic underlying the first of four online Stakeholder Working Groups (SWG), organised by the LAG Terra Barocca on the 17th January 2022 within the framework of the Incircle Interreg MED project. Following an international selection of several candidate territories, the Sicilian Local Action Group (LAG) has been partnered with The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) in Malta as the target replicating territory for the transfer of good practices and the model developed within the INCIRCLE project to the relevant stakeholders of the tourism sector through a participative approach. LAG sets itself the goal of enhancing the sustainability and attractiveness of territory, by analysing the current state of circularity and the real needs of the sector. The Energy and Water Agency is working hand in hand with external consultants of Svimed Centro Euromediterraneo per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile organisation, based in Ragusa, Sicily. About 60 stakeholders – coming from local public administration and various categories of the tourism sector - actively participated in the 1st Stakeholder Working Group, having the possibility to discuss the state of the art of sustainable tourism in the territory. This served as an opportunity to highlight the important initiatives that are aimed to make the territory a distinguishable tourism destination “Enjoy Barocco – Sicilian Experience”, as the final release of the Masterplan, financing the 5 LAG Municipalities for the implementation of the local Tourist Info Points; or the PUMS action in order to connect the 5 LAG Municipalities with their rural areas. A 2nd SWG was held on the 21st January 2022, to allow for a continuation to this settled participatory planning, foreseeing the contribution of all the interested stakeholders; whilst the 3rd SWG will be organised on the 28th January to finally analyse and transform in territorial strategy actions all the comments, proposal and ideas recorded by the present stakeholders during the previous working groups. 👉Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3IWkFPA #Incircle #InterregMED #Circulareconomy #Circulartourism #Sustainability #ThinkCircle #ChooseCircle #BePartoftheCircle #sustainablefuture #recycling #wastemanagement #ATBIllesBalears, #BalearicIslands #LarnacaFamagustaDistrictsDevelopmentAgency #Institutiitransporti #bashkiaHimarë #GoverndesillesBalears #LarnakaMunicipality #MinistryforGozo #ΤμήμαΠρογραμματισμούΔήμουΡεθύμνης Interreg MED Programme Interreg MED Sustainable Tourism Community CIVINET Greece-Cyprus Palmajove, Ajuntament de Palma Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna REGION OF CRETE The Energy and Water Agency Agència de Desenvolupament del Berguedà
