A couple of weeks ago, we were honoured to be chosen as the charity partner for the Sophia Club's Live Philosophy event! Titled 'Is the cosmos unravelling?', the event at Hoxton Hall in London explored the mysteries of the universe, led by theoretical physicist Professor Tony Padilla, with accompanying music from cellist and composer Oliver Coates. On why In2scienceUK was selected, the Sophia Club said: "We chose In2scienceUK as our charity partner to support their work in promoting diversity and social mobility within STEM with programs targeting students from underprivileged backgrounds. In the context of the event's theme, we hope that this partnership inspires critical reflection about whose voices are included and excluded from the spaces in which scientific knowledge is created. "We are inspired by In2scienceUK’s mission to give all young people access to STEM so that they can fulfil their potential and, in doing so, to improve the diversity of these fields and their capacity to innovate for the future in ways that factor in a wider range of perspectives and voices." It was such a pleasure for us to attend the event and learn all about the cosmos 🌌 here's what In2scienceUK alumnus Zeenath had to say about the experience: "I was initially unsure how a musician and a physics professor could meaningfully connect, or how much I would understand. However, the experience showed me that music can communicate complex ideas beyond words. It also highlighted how interdisciplinary collaborations, even unexpected ones, can deepen both personal insight and public understanding of the world. It left me with a new appreciation for how different ways of thinking can come together to make complex ideas more accessible." A huge thank you to the Sophia Club team and Aeon Media Group Ltd for their support! Photo credit: Akil Wilson 📸
