Cryptocurrency Requires Nuanced Islamic Analysis, Not Blanket Judgments: Dr Imran M. Shaikh FinTech Expert | Researcher and Lecturer| Digital Economy & HRD Corp Accredited Financial Technology Specialist The recent ruling on cryptocurrency has reignited an important discussion. As FinTech researchers, we must distinguish between two questions: Is cryptocurrency considered mal (property) in Islamic law? and Is every cryptocurrency Shariah-compliant? These are not the same. Blockchain-based assets possess ownership, scarcity, transferability, and market value. Yet, not all crypto assets are alike. Bitcoin, stablecoins, utility tokens, and meme coins require separate Shariah evaluation. Islamic finance should embrace evidence-based, asset-specific scholarship rather than broad assumptions about an evolving technology. #FinTech #IslamicFinance #Blockchain #Cryptocurrency #Shariah #DigitalAssets
