Public Mining Assets Demand Intense Scrutiny from All Citizens – Bright Simons VP of IMANI, Bright Simons, is calling on Ghanaians to play a more active role in monitoring the governance of the country's mineral resources, stressing that mining assets belong to the public and must be managed with transparency and accountability. Commenting on the ongoing dispute involving Engineers & Planners (E&P), Azumah Resources and the Black Volta Gold Project, Mr Simons argued that controversies surrounding ownership, contractual obligations and corporate governance have significant implications for Ghana's national interest. He emphasised: 🔸 Ghana's mineral resources are public assets that require active citizen oversight. 🔸 Transparency and accountability are essential in mining agreements and corporate governance. 🔸 Delays and disputes over strategic mining projects carry significant economic costs for the country. 🔸 Strong public scrutiny helps safeguard national wealth and promotes responsible resource governance. “Why is any of this my business? Because in Ghana, all mining assets are ultimately public assets. Their governance thus requires all citizens to scrutinise happenings in the industry.” Mr Simons argues that greater transparency and civic oversight can help ensure Ghana's mineral wealth delivers long-term national benefits through responsible governance, investor confidence and sustainable resource management.
