Nkoko Nkitinkiti Policy Will Fail, Can't Solve Ghana's Poultry Problem — Kofi Bentil Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has criticised the government's Nkoko Nkitinkiti programme, arguing that the initiative is unlikely to address Ghana's poultry production deficit because it does not tackle the sector's structural challenges. Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile, Mr Bentil said distributing small numbers of day-old chicks to individuals cannot significantly reduce Ghana's poultry import bill, calling instead for large-scale commercial investments capable of transforming the industry. He emphasised: 🔸 Ghana's poultry sector requires industrial-scale investment to boost domestic production. 🔸 Small-scale distribution of day-old chicks cannot meet national demand. 🔸 Public resources should be directed toward sustainable, commercially viable interventions. 🔸 Long-term agricultural policy should focus on productivity, scale and competitiveness. “Nkoko Nkitinkiti has zero chance of solving the poultry deficit in Ghana... You can't sprinkle day-old chicks around and solve the poultry problem.” Mr Bentil argued that Ghana should prioritise policies that attract serious private investment into commercial poultry production to strengthen food security, reduce imports and create sustainable jobs.
