🥇 Proud to share that Safest Way's interactive street lighting map of London won First Prize at the UCL Doctoral School's 2025 Data Visualisation competition. We combined street lighting data from all 33 London boroughs to create a comprehensive view of the city's night-time visibility (thanks Mapbox for the great platform!). Each road segment shows lighting levels from well-lit 💡 to completely unlit 🌚, which we hope is useful for pedestrians, planners, and anyone interested in urban safety. The map reveals expected patterns: central boroughs are more illuminated than outer ones, and green spaces naturally have fewer lights. But it also highlights nuances, like how Richmond's 40% "fully lit" rating reflects its abundance of parks 🌳🌲 rather than poor infrastructure. This project emerged from Safest Way's broader mission to make urban safety data more accessible. Sometimes the most impactful visualisations are the simplest ones. 🗺️ Explore the map here - https://lnkd.in/e29CD44R P.S. Moustache is new; grooming tips welcome 🥸
