Adorigo Farm Winery by Atelier Sérgio Rebelo settles into the terraced hillsides of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape where viticulture has shaped the terrain for centuries. The 1,100-square-meter winery forms the first phase of a family wine tourism development at Quinta de Adorigo, with a hotel still under construction on the same estate. Concrete and timber structure the production spaces while responding to the region's extreme temperature swings, leveraging thermal mass and natural ventilation to minimize mechanical systems. The project emerged from a 2019 competition that asked architects to reconcile contemporary ambition with the cultural weight of Portugal's most prestigious wine-growing area, resulting in a building that reads as both intervention and extension of the agricultural patterns carved into the slopes over generations.
