Research that starts with a question: What problem would you solve if you had the time, funding, and opportunity? Through the SoReMo Initiative at Illinois Tech, 11 student fellows spent the Spring 2026 semester conducting research projects that used data science to address real-world challenges in public spaces, optimization, and public policy. Projects explored safer navigation through Chicago neighborhoods, environmental benefits of urban tree canopies, improved food pantry volunteer training, optimized dance recital scheduling, the impact of gerrymandering, and how data centers affect surrounding communities.
