This week, the third meeting of the UvA Special Interest Group on #AffectiveLearning took place in the form of a Journal Club. Despite the busy end-of-semester period, nine enthusiastic colleagues came together to explore different perspectives on affective learning. We discussed articles from educational philosophy, critical pedagogy, and transformative learning, each offering a different answer to questions such as: What is education for? Why does affective learning matter? And what role do teachers play in supporting it? One of the strengths of the Journal Club format is that it provides the gentle push that is sometimes needed to dive into the educational literature. Reading is one thing, but discussing ideas together adds nuance, depth, and critical reflection. It also helps us develop a shared language for talking about affective learning and its place in higher education. Many thanks to everyone who participated and contributed their insights, questions, and perspectives.
