🆕 WHO launches an international study on the Andes hantavirus outbreak, coordinated from the Can Ruti Campus The scientific protocol developed by Roger Paredes, head of the Infectious Diseases Department at Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, researcher at IrsiCaixa and scientific director of the Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions, has been deployed in 21 countries to study the transmission, clinical progression and immune response to the Andes hantavirus. The protocol also includes an advanced virology and immunology study coordinated by Principal Investigators Julià Blanco (IrsiCaixa and IGTP) and Nuria Izquierdo-Useros (IrsiCaixa). The NAVIS initiative is part of the World Health Organization’s strategy to strengthen preparedness for future health emergencies and demonstrates the international scientific community’s ability to generate evidence rapidly in response to an emerging health threat. The study is supported by the WHO, the UK Health Security Agency, the BE READY European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness, and numerous academic, healthcare and public health institutions worldwide. The coordination and involvement from the Can Ruti Campus highlights its expertise in emerging infectious diseases, epidemic preparedness and collaborative research.
