In July 2025 I celebrated 21 years since emigrating from Brazil to Europe. It’s been a rollercoaster 🎢—a journey that has given me the opportunity to feel the values of adaptability, awareness, patience and resilience. How do words emigration and immigration resonate with you ? 🧩 For me it’s a long-term adventure to find yourself **losing ground—**an immigrant where you live and an emigrant where you came from. I enjoy expressing myself in Portuguese, but I’m also grateful for the chance to start from scratch again and again over the years here in Europe, which was already by ancestry a home away home. ✈️You must keep going—it’s all about exploring and learning. Emigration can hit home for various reasons, but my hope is that local friends and connections can understand, be patient, and empathize with emigrant and immigrant communities. After all, what goes around comes around. Let’s appreciate the journeys of those helping to build more prosperous and progressive countries. 🪇 This week, I also celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Brazil, in the company of diplomats, friends, hosts, and fellow members of the Ireland–Brazil community. Here’s to the next fifty years of friendship between two warm and evolving communities across continents.
