A historic milestone for Lithuania’s energy sector! April and May of this year were historic – they were the first months since the closure of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in 2009 when the country generated more electricity than it consumed. Previously, such records were set only for hours, then days, then weeks – and now for entire months! 🌬️ Wind farms generated nearly half of Lithuania’s electricity needs this spring – 48%. ☀️ Together, wind and solar power plants met as much as 73% of our electricity demand – the highest percentage in Lithuania’s history. This means we’re generating more and more electricity ourselves, becoming less dependent on imports, and strengthening the country’s energy independence. As early as 2027 or 2028, we can expect the first years when, on an annual basis, more electricity will be generated in Lithuania than consumed. #EnergySmart
