Following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, the IFRC has launched a CHF 2 million allocation from its Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the Venezuela Red Cross as it delivers urgent, lifesaving assistance. "Our priority is to save lives under the rubble," said IFRC spokesperson Tommaso Della Longa. "We know by experience that the first hours after an earthquake are really critical." Cruz Roja Venezolana volunteers are already supporting search and rescue, emergency medical care and relief efforts using pre-positioned stocks, while the global IFRC network mobilizes additional support. The needs are growing by the minute. The IFRC-DREF allocation will help scale up the immediate response and support affected communities in the critical hours ahead.
