The University of Rhode Island’s new Ocean Robotics Laboratory is a major investment in autonomous marine systems, giving researchers a purpose-built space with test tanks and launch infrastructure to design and trial ocean robots for mapping, inspection and environmental monitoring. IEC’s work on data‑centre energy efficiency complements this by setting standards and metrics so the data infrastructure that stores and analyses the vast streams of ocean‑robotics information can do so with much lower power use, making large‑scale ocean sensing more sustainable end‑to‑end.
