It has been awhile since I have made a #jobsearch post and having some interaction with one of my connections this morning made me think of this. These days everyone is talking about all the applications they are making and the scads of interviews they are having and how they are being ghosted etc… Without going into great detail of my own search I will say that yes I have been ghosted a couple times and yes I did apply for a lot of positions. Many of those with the automated thanks but you’re not qualified email which was crap because I was more than qualified based on your requirements you have posted for the position. (That’s an entire other post) Here is a key tip to the job search. You can apply for as many positions as you want (BTW LinkedIn has been my only source) You will get responses from recruiters, you will get random calls from recruiters that are for positions you didn’t apply for. Here’s the tip. Quickly vet the position they are talking to you about and put it into a yes or no category. One of the first questions you need to ask is the compensation. If it’s not where you want to be then tell them you’re not interested. Next, make sure to ask what the interview process will be like. If they tell you there are going to be more than three interviews and tests and project work. MOVE ON!!! Do not get caught up in the time suck trap that these are. If the requirements change, again MOVE ON!!! Take control of your search. You may be thinking, but Erik how well has this worked for you? I will say very well and the good news is coming and I have not had any interview process go more than three interviews and was only ghosted by one company. #opentowork
