At IDH, we believe that convening is more than just high level conversations and empty promises. Is about connecting actors with transformative power for economic and social scalable impact. The 49 intentions to trade- worth 250 million dollars- signed during the B2B Growing Together session at the African Grain Trade Summit, is a proof of that. One standout match is the partnership agreement between Kibaigwa Flour Supplies, ltd and Zanzibar Animal Feeds, that is about to be signed. What began as a single lead quickly evolved into a broader commercial relationship: a supply agreement for 6,400 tons of animal feed ingredients, including 3,000 tons of maize, 1,400 tons of wheat, 1,000 tons of sunflower seed and cake and 1,000 tons of soybean grain and cake. The partnership has also created a poultry market for smallholder farmers. Zanzibar Feeds plans to sell day-old chicks to Kibaigwa’s contracted farmers, supply feed, and later purchase mature birds for its meat-processing facility, ensuring a full year-round farmer income and contributing to local stability. This opportunity is generating wider economic benefits. To meet the demand for sunflower cake, Kibaigwa will aggregate from cottage processors in Dodoma, keeping value within rural communities. Supporting SMEs like Kibaigwa to seize such opportunities is exactly what Growing Together was designed for. Over the next three years, our technical assistance partnership will help them offer seed inputs on credit, expand mechanization services, establish close-to-farm aggregation points and strengthen management systems to fully realise this market opportunity. By identifying and nurturing these connections, we are growing resilient local SMEs, improving food security, securing markets for smallholders and strong rural communities.
