Heart failure affects millions of people worldwide and can significantly impact quality of life. Research into new treatment approaches remains critical to improving outcomes and expanding options for patients living with the condition. This new article in the Lancet reports findings from the GOAL-HF1 study, a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase Ib/IIa trial evaluating AC01, an oral ghrelin receptor agonist, in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. The study investigated the safety, pharmacokinetics and exploratory efficacy of the investigational treatment, generating evidence that will help inform future stages of development. ICON participated in the study as a clinical site through ICON’s clinical research unit located at UMCG (University Medical Centre Groningen) in the Netherlands, recruiting eight of the 58 patients enrolled.
