🌍 Student Exchange with the University of Waterloo (Canada) – 2025 Cohort 🇨🇦🇩🇪 As part of our long-standing DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst-supported exchange program with the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), three students from Technische Universität Braunschweig — Meriem Mazmouri, Jannis Künzl, and Erik Fischer — spent a semester abroad in Canada last year. Meriem and Jannis, who are both connected to our institute through bioprocess engineering projects and thesis work, shared valuable insights into their academic experience at Waterloo. Their courses covered a broad range of topics, including bioprocess engineering, nanomedicine and nanobiotechnology, industrial ecology, and entrepreneurial planning and execution. This combination of technical, interdisciplinary, and innovation-focused teaching provided a very enriching perspective. They also reported on the diverse assessment formats (including group projects, midterms, finals, reports, and graded coursework), the very supportive professors, and the excellent learning environment on campus. In addition, they highlighted the vibrant student life, modern facilities, and the many sports and extracurricular opportunities that contributed to a strong sense of community. Beyond their studies, all three students were able to experience a great deal of Canada’s culture, everyday life, and landscape. These exchange experiences are always especially valuable — not only academically, but also personally — as they offer new perspectives on different countries, cultures, and ways of learning and living. We are very grateful to Meriem and Jannis for sharing their impressions and experiences. We look forward to hearing more at the upcoming Canada Evening, and we wish Meriem, Erik and Jannis all the best and continued success in their studies back here in Braunschweig.
