What used to be a physical car key is now a software‑based access permission. That is why the #DigitalKey is primarily a #Security and #Cybersecurity topic. A traditional car key has only two states: present or lost. A digital key adds control. Vehicle access can be assigned to specific users, limited in time, adjusted, or revoked instantly. This reduces risk and creates transparency around who can access a vehicle and when, without physical key handovers or additional operational effort. Security is achieved through system design. Communication between vehicle and smartphone is encrypted and controlled. The vehicle verifies that an authorized device is actually nearby and prevents access from a distance. Even if a smartphone battery is empty, controlled access remains possible. Protection is built into the architecture rather than added afterwards. For this to work, the digital key must be integrated into vehicle architecture, identity management, backend services, and the overall #AutomotiveCybersecurity strategy, and be tested and validated over the vehicle lifecycle. IAV is ready to shape the future of mobility! The digital key will soon be an indispensable tool for fleet operators, and IAV is at the forefront of driving this innovation forward. At #IAV, experts like Simon E. and Mathias Krause support digital key development from security concept and #SoftwareDevelopment to #Testing, #Validation, and series integration. 👉 How do you assess the security maturity of today’s digital key implementations – and where do you see the biggest risks: backend, vehicle, or user interaction? 👉 In which areas can you still imagine using the digital key?
