✨ Industry update: Belgian drugmaker UCB announces its first US biologics manufacturing facility in... Georgia! Global biopharmaceutical company UCB has announced a $2 billion investment in Gwinnett County, Georgia, to establish its first US biologics manufacturing facility, and it's a big one. Spanning approximately 460,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art campus will leverage AI, robotics, and automation, setting a new benchmark for advanced biologics production. Once operational, the facility is expected to produce complex biologics 24/7 primarily for the US market, strengthening UCB's global supply resilience and serving as a hub for US manufacturing operations. The numbers speak for themselves: → $2B investment, one of the largest in Georgia's history → ~330 permanent, highly skilled biologics manufacturing jobs → 1,000+ construction jobs → ~$5B in total estimated economic impact The project reinforces UCB's commitment to investing ahead of demand, with 16 FDA approvals or indication expansions to date, and its psoriasis drug Bimzelx in high demand. This is another signal of where the industry is heading: large-scale, digitally integrated, US-based biologics manufacturing that demands strong validation, automation expertise, and regulatory readiness from day one.
