💊 Novartis has agreed to acquire a pan-mutant-selective PI3Kα inhibitor from Synnovation Therapeutics in a USD 3 billion deal. The Phase 1/2 asset will strengthen Novartis’ breast cancer pipeline, with potential in HR+/HER2- breast cancer and other solid tumour indications. What stands out here is not just the deal itself, but what it signals across the wider oncology market. Large pharma continues to invest in targeted oncology assets with the potential to improve efficacy, tolerability, and combination use across increasingly competitive treatment landscapes. And the bigger picture is clear: the WHO projects more than 35 million new cancer cases in 2050, up 77% from 2022. In addition, according to IQVIA, global cancer medicine spending is expected to reach $441 billion by 2029, with double-digit growth forecast across seven of the top 10 tumour types. The oncology market is expanding on every level: more investment, more competition for differentiated assets, and greater demand for the scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial expertise needed to support growth. At i-Pharm Consulting, we connect oncology innovators with the specialist talent needed to build and scale across drug development, clinical operations, medical affairs, regulatory, and commercial functions.
