A visit with a lasting impression: Following the latest HZDR Supervisory Board meeting, Michael Zimmermann, Chair of the Supervisory Board and Ministerial Director at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt, BMFTR), visited HZDR Innovation GmbH, the Innovation Campus Radeberg, and the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF) at HZDR. The visit highlighted how research excellence is translated into innovation, technology transfer, and tangible societal impact. At the Innovation Campus Radeberg, Michael Zimmermann gained insights into the impressive development of HZDR Innovation GmbH and the campus ecosystem. His conclusion: “This is sustainable technology transfer.” The tour also included an outlook on the planned STAR infrastructure for radiopharmaceutical research and innovation, as well as visits to HIF facilities showcasing cutting-edge laser, sensor, plasma, and hydrometallurgical technologies for securing critical raw materials.
