From 1 July 2026, tranche 2 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth) reforms will require many small businesses to comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) for the first time. Lawyers, accountants, real estate professionals and other newly regulated entities will need to ensure their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing processes meet privacy requirements, including transparency, data minimisation, and security.
