π Art historian Henrike Scholten receives the Thijssen-Schoute Fellowship 2027! During her fellowship at the Huygens Institute, she will investigate how eighteenth-century miniature painter Jacob Berents (before 1679-c. 1747) positioned himself as both an artist and a 'mathematicus'. Her research centres on a remarkable manuscript, written in a mixture of German and Dutch, containing technical instructions, recipes and lists and summaries of printed books featuring names such as Erasmus, Athanasius Kircher and Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek. The manuscript offers insight not only into Berents' working practices, but also into the dissemination and circulation of knowledge in the early modern period. π Read more π https://lnkd.in/dTZNviWW
