Another great Private Equity Insights conference last week in Milano with +600 attendees and insightful panel discussions. Humatica attendees Carlo Raco abd Andros P. were pleased to meet many Italian clients and colleagues at the event. Key take-aways: 1️⃣ The Italian private equity market is thriving with a large number of mid- and lower mid-market buy-out firms active in the ecosystem. 2️⃣ There is a vast and growing number of competitive, entrepreneurial, specialist acquisition targets as a result of demographic shifts, the need for succession and more restrictive bank financing resulting from sector consolidation. 3️⃣ Large family offices are playing a key role in direct investments. They have build strong deal sourcing and execution teams; and differentiate with their unique investment time horizon, industrial pedigree and local networks. 4️⃣ Professionalizing portfolio company leadership processes and building scalable organizations is THE consistent challenge to unlock the value of Italian primary buy-outs. 5️⃣ Investors and portco leaders are more open to enging specialist support to help transform portfolio company organizations than in the past - indicating a maturing of the Italian private equity market. In a most interesting Panel on "Value Creation through Transformation: Leadership, Talent, AI" panelists Walter Ricciotti, Claudio Dimarco, Sebastiano Potenza, Alessandro Cortesi explored the unique organizational challenges facing Italian buy-outs: "at the end of the day, one of the things where founders feel less confident with is building the organization. Many may not openly admit it, but they know it." In his panel on "Driving Value Through Commercial and Operational Excellence" Matteo Mancini of Fernweh Group also emphasized that the key determinant of success or failure of a value creation plan is whether the organization is capable of executing it. Thank you Hasan Qaiser and Sebastian Tollak for yet another great conference. #operatingpartner #privateequity #orgtransformation
