#OTD in 1874, Austrian composer, writer, painter, and music theorist Arnold Schönberg was born. Associated with the expressionist movement in Germany, he fled Germany and emigrated to the United States due to the rise of the Nazi Party, who labelled his works as degenerate music because of his Jewish heritage. Schönberg later developed the twelve-tone technique and would personify innovations in atonality technique for musical compositions. His approach to harmony and development is one of the most influential musical achievements of the 20th century.
